It all starts with emotion, intuition. Photographer and master of arts Susanna Majuri is inspired by literature, poetry and music. Verses made up of little big words form building blocks in the artist’s mind. Empathy, imagination, stories and colours all play key roles in her work. Pictures are used to process emotions and tell stories. Success causes the artist to come alive and be enchanted by her work, radiating joy.
Dreamy landscapes, clear water and bubbles are eye-catching. Majuri’s pictures blur the boundary between reality and the unreal, where people’s movement faces the mass and power of water. The encounters build up to form the magical atmospheres so characteristic of this sensitive artist, captivating viewers around the world.
Majuri, who has held numerous exhibitions, is now studying for a doctoral degree at University of the Arts Helsinki’s Academy of Fine Arts, researching the possibility of photographic fiction to act as a medium for emotional encounters. Majuri participates in the internationally active Helsinki School group of artists and her work can be found in collections at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma, The Finnish Museum of Photography and Espoo Museum of Modern Art EMMA.
